Sheets clean. Easy to find. Great location near Sky Bus and intercity bus terminal. Comfortable bed, double room with mini fridge. Convenient Queen street spot, cheap rooms, but consider parking fees. Fantastic central location, close to everything and airport bus stop. Decent sized rooms and helpful staff. A good place to stay.

First, I got a room in the 3rd floor, it was directly above a night club. It was very very noisy. It felt like you were sleeping in the club. Then I changed the room. The new room was better but still very noisy. At the second night I changed the room again. The new room was in the 7th floor. You could not hear the club but the air conditioner was very loud. You could not switch it off. It was also too cold because of the air conditioner. All in one, it was a horrible stay. It was too expensive for the noisy and untidy rooms. The staff was not very friendly and incompetent. I would not recommend it.

Location excellent - for getting there, getting out and about and sightseeing and there were a good selection of eating places close by. We had a good street view which we enjoyed.

I feel I could not recommend the Base Auckland to others of 'mature' age - we are 60yrs young - for these reasons. 1. The lifts didn't always work as intended and we felt this was dangerous. 2. The bedspread (although a dark colour)on our bed looked unclean with stains of a "dubious nature" on the white underside. 3. We should have been alerted by the advertisment of the "great bar" - but we found a Friday and Saturday night stay very disturbing with the loud thomping sound coming from the "great bar".

We had a great stay here! Despite arriving in the middle of the night, the staff were really nice and checked us in quickly. Once we got to our room, we found everything we needed, including ironing facilities, toiletries and a flat-screen TV. The location was perfect - right in the heart of the city centre, close to everything we wanted to see. We loved that there was a dining bar/lounge area, as well as a leisure/TV room, where we could relax after a busy day.

The location is good, being right in the centre of town.

Dirty bathrooms, toilet door did not have a lock, shower tap the push button type= annoying. My dorm room was way too hot. When I was staying there a girl got stuck in the lift for an hour! However the stairs were annoying because you could not get into the floor that way, so really you need to use the lift! The staff were helpful but the que to see them was always long and they seemed overworked. I would not recommend this backpackers- there must be a better option.

I liked the fact that I was leaving early the next day

I thought it was over priced, I could not control the air vent blasting cold air into my room. there were'nt enough blankets on the bed. The bathroom was unclean so I went without a shower and felt unsafe when I went to my room as there was no lighting in the corridor my room was located on. It seemed dark and felt dangerous with drunk people wandering around randomly.

I booked a bed at base because that was what i required, a bed. I stayed in the sanctuary girls only dorm. However, i didnt get just a bed. I met great people during the course of my 5 day stay and had a very enjoyable time. The handiness of globe bar in the basement is brilliant as one can have a night out, yet get back to ones bed quickly, easily and safely

The showers are very very small and have no bench to put ones things on, only hooks which are not always practical

The hostel had great amenities and offered complimentary breakfast and shuttle bus service, making it easy to explore the city. The location was central, with plenty of options for shopping, dining, and entertainment within walking distance. it was a good value for the price.

The shared bathrooms lacked proper maintenance, with doors that did not lock and frequently ran out of toilet paper. The lack of proper ventilation in the rooms caused a buildup of dust and made the stay uncomfortable at times.

    Location. Friendly staff.

Bathrooms were disgusting - the gents had fecal matter all over bowl of toilet. and the sinks were not clean. The stench had been developing for more than just a day. Possibly somewhere closer to a week. Ladies not much better. Showers not clean either.

This hotel is conveniently located near all main attractions, making exploring the city very easy and enjoyable. the room was clean and tidy, with excellent service. Breakfast offered a lovely selection of pastries and delicious coffee. the mesmerizing view from the window was truly unforgettable.

The noise level from outside was disturbing at times.

I liked the fact that Base Auckland is close to every facility we could possibly need. The staff were extra friendly & helpful whenever we approached them for whatever reason, nothing was too trivial for them to be bothered with. Would I return........YES definitely!!!

Perhaps the way in which the bacon & eggs were cooked..on a portable grill??!!

    Good location.

The bed was uncomfortable with 1, cheap pillow. Under the bed and behind the curtains were empty beer bottles. The lifts did not work effectively. Residents had blocked open fire doors so they could get in and out. I suspect this would be contrary to heathe and safety and fire regulations. This place could be great but appears to be poorly managed. When we arrived there was a big queue, two girls trying their best while other staff milled around doing nothing. Get your act together. The concept is great but the management and execution very poor......
